🧠 Their Mind Is Just Louder Than Their Spirit
Why spiritual things don’t make sense when the mind is not renewed (1 Corinthians 2 Bible study)
Many people think the problem is that they cannot hear God.
But often the real issue is not that God isn’t speaking —
it’s that the mind is louder than the spirit.
In 1 Corinthians chapter 2, the apostle Paul the Apostle explains why spiritual things can be difficult for some people to understand.
“The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
— 1 Corinthians 2:14
This verse reveals something many believers struggle with but don’t realize:
You can be intelligent, logical, educated, and thoughtful…
and still miss what God is saying.
Because spiritual discernment does not come from the mind.
It comes from the Spirit.
The Difference Between the Natural Mind and the Spiritual Mind
Paul makes a clear distinction between two ways of thinking:
The natural mind relies on logic, proof, and control
The spiritual mind relies on discernment, faith, and trust
The natural mind asks:
“Does this make sense?”
“Can I explain this?”
“What if this goes wrong?”
“I need more details before I move.”
But the Spirit often leads differently.
Sometimes God says move…
without explaining why.
Sometimes God confirms something…
without giving the full picture.
Sometimes God tells you no…
without giving a reason.
And when the mind cannot stay in control,
it becomes restless, anxious, and loud.
Not because you don’t love God.
Not because you don’t have faith.
But because your mind is still trying to feel safe
without fully trusting Him.
Why Many Women Struggle Here
This is one of the most common spiritual battles, especially for women.
Not because women are weak —
but because women are often highly perceptive, analytical, and emotionally aware.
That means the mind can start running faster than the spirit.
You start thinking:
“What if I’m wrong?”
“What if I misunderstood God?”
“What if this doesn’t work?”
“What will people think?”
“Why doesn’t this make sense yet?”
And before you realize it,
your thoughts are louder than your discernment.
When that happens, you can talk yourself out of what God already showed you.
We Have the Mind of Christ
Paul ends this teaching with a powerful statement:
“But we have the mind of Christ.”
— 1 Corinthians 2:16
The mind of Christ is different from the natural mind.
The mind of Christ is not ruled by fear.
Not ruled by comparison.
Not ruled by overthinking.
Not ruled by insecurity.
The mind of Christ is:
Steady
Disciplined
Spirit-led
Discerning
Calm even without full understanding
When your mind is renewed, you can follow God
even when you don’t have all the answers.
When the Mind Is Not Renewed
When the mind is not submitted to the Spirit, certain patterns appear.
You may:
Question what God already showed you
Doubt what God already confirmed
Overanalyze what was meant to be received
Call spiritual things confusion
Delay obedience waiting for perfect clarity
This is why the enemy attacks the mind first.
Because if he can keep your thoughts loud,
your spirit will feel distant.
Not because God left you…
but because your mind won’t get quiet long enough to listen.
When the Mind Becomes Quiet, Discernment Becomes Clear
Spiritual maturity is not when you know everything.
It is when your mind no longer needs to know everything
in order to trust God.

When your mind is renewed:
You don’t panic when you don’t understand
You don’t need constant signs
You don’t need everyone to agree
You don’t need proof for what God already confirmed
You become steady.
You become discerning.
You become confident without being loud.
And this is when the Spirit becomes clearer than the noise.
Not because God started speaking more…
but because your mind stopped interrupting Him.
Final Thought
Their mind is not wrong.
It’s just louder than their spirit.
And until the mind is renewed,
the voice of God will always sound uncertain.
You don’t need more signs.
You don’t need more confirmation.
You don’t need more explanations.
You need a renewed mind.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
— Romans 12:2
When the mind becomes quiet,
the Spirit becomes clear.
